MOST IMPORTANTLY, THROUGHOUT THE BIBLE, JEHOVAH GOD ONLY “GIVES” US WHAT WE AS HUMANS “NEED” TO KNOW ABOUT HIM, HIS INTENTIONS, HIS PLANS AND HIS DESIRES!!

CONTINUING WITH THE BOOK OF GENESIS

GENESIS Chapter 16

A very brief interpretation of the various Verses of Chapter 16 will follow:

Verses 1 to 10 tell of Abram’s wife, Sarai, requesting her husband to have a child by Hagar, who was her Egyptian servant. Hagar thus also became Abram’s wife and bore him a son named Ishmael.

Hagar, however, became hostile towards Sarai and Abram gave her permission to do as she pleased with Hagar.

Sarai responded by being hard on Hagar who duly fled.

An angel, however, appeared to Hagar and told her to return and to be servile to Sarai.

The angel further promised Hagar that JEHOVAH GOD would also “multiply thy seed exceedingly, that it shall not be numbered for multitude”. The name Ishmael was given by the LORD!!

Strangely enough the angel also stated “he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man’s hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren.” Later will most probably be understood why these comments were made.

Verse 16 finalises with Abram’s age at the birth of Ishmael, namely “four score and six years old”.

GENESIS Chapter 15

A very brief interpretation of the various Verses of Chapter 15 will follow:

Verses 1 to 7 inform of Abram informing JEHOVAH GOD about his sadness in that he was childless and thus without an heir and how JEHOVAH GOD promised him that he would not only be given a heir but that his “seed” would eventually fill the entire earth.

Verses 8 to 11 inform Abram inquiring of his inheritance and of instructions that JEHOVAH GOD gave to Abram involving the offering of 3 animals and 2 birds to JEHOVAH GOD.

The animals and birds were not offered in the normal way as it will be seen in Verse 17 that “a smoking furnace, and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces” indicated that HEAVENLY intervention occurred

Verses 12 to 21 inform of the prophecies given to Abram while he was in a deep sleep.

The prophecies entailed Abram’s “seed” being servile foreigners for 400 years but that JEHOVAH GOD would eventually take action against the people that caused Abram and his “seed” such affliction.

JEHOVAH GOD also informed Abram in the prophecies that he and his people would have plenty when they were finally freed and that he, Abram, would die at an old age.

The final verses again state about the covenant between JEHOVAH GOD and Abram and about the vastness of his inheritance.

My next Post should cover GENESIS: Chapter Sixteen.

GENESIS Chapter 14

A very brief interpretation of the various Verses of Chapter 14 will follow:

Verses 1 to 10 cover the history of the various kings that ruled the various areas and the wars that they warred against each other.

Verses 11 to 20 inform of the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah taking Lot, Abram’s brother’s son, and all of Lot’s possessions into captivity.

Further is also mentioned that when Abram heard of Lot’s captivity that he warred against Lot’s captors and brought Lot and all his possessions back.

Melchizedek, the king of Salem and also a priest of JEHOVAH GOD, blessed Abram for his deeds.

At this point in time I am of the belief that later in the Bible Jesus is likened to Melchizedek in that ONLY both he and Melchizedek were to be in positions of both kings and priests.

Verses 21 to 24 mention that the king of Sodom approached Abram and asked him to give back the persons that he had captured and that he could keep all the material possessions.

Abram replied that he would not keep one iota of the possessions except the food that was eaten by the young soldiers and the portions that they were to receive as payment. Only the people were important to Abram.

GENESIS Chapter 13

A very brief interpretation of the various Verses of Chapter 13 will follow:

Verses 1 to 13 give the history of Abram and Lot, who were both extremely wealthy and their taking up of new residences. At first they were together but decided that they had to split up as their possessions were too many for the area that they lived in.

In Verse 13 it is mentioned that the people of the city of Sodom was extremely wicked and it was in this region that Lot chose that the city of Sodom was situated.

From Verses 14 to 16 JEHOVAH GOD promises Abram that all the land that he can see will be given as an inheritance to his “seed” into eternity and that his “seed” will be uncountable.

Verses 17 & 18 state that the LORD, JEHOVAH GOD, then urged Abram to move to Mamre which is in the area of Hebron and which Abram duly did. There Abram built an altar “unto the LORD”!

My next Post should cover GENESIS: Chapter Fourteen.

A very brief interpretation of the various Verses of Chapter 12 will follow:

Abraham Goes to the Land of Canaan

Verses 1 to 8 tell of JEHOVAH GOD commanding Abram and his whole family to leave the country of his abode and to go to the land that HE wants Abram to go to.

JEHOVAH GOD promised to bless and protect Abram who was 75 years old at the time of his departure.

GENESIS Chapter Eleven

A very brief interpretation of the various Verses of Chapter 11 will follow:

The Tower of Babel

Verses 1 to 9 all cover the attempt to build a tower that would reach into JEHOVAH GOD’s HEAVEN. At the point in time when that desire was conceived all the people on earth spoke the same language.

JEHOVAH GOD then decided to introduce numerous languages so as to confuse the people and to make it impossible for them to understand one another.

Verses 10 to 32 cover the history of the descendants of the sons of Noah down to Lot and Abram.

The fact that Abram took Sarai as his wife, and also that she had no children, is also mentioned.

GENESIS Chapter Ten

A very brief interpretation of the various Verses of Chapter 10 will follow:

Verses 1 to 33 at the end of the chapter give much detail about “the families of the sons of Noah, after their generations, in their nations: and by these were the nations divided in the earth”.

A prominent person mentioned amongst all was Nimrod, who was the son of Cush, and who in turn became a mighty “hunter”. He was known as “Nimrod the mighty hunter before the LORD.”

The history of the generations of Noah is really given in much detail, even as to the areas that most were allocated to.

A very brief interpretation of the various Verses of Chapter 9 will follow:

The sub-heading given in the 1611CE King James Bible is:

Noah Curses Ham and Canaan

Verse 1 “And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth.”
